A1 Movers

A1 Movers, formerly known as Cambridge English: Movers (YLE Movers), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. It is the next step in a child’s English language learning.

A1 Movers is the second of three Cambridge English Qualifications designed for young learners. These tests introduce children to everyday written and spoken English and are an excellent way for them to gain confidence and improve their English.

The tests are written around familiar topics and focus on the skills needed to communicate effectively in English through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

A1 Movers can help your child:

  • understand basic instructions or take part in simple conversations
  • understand basic notices, instructions or information
  • complete basic forms and write notes, including times, dates and places.

Reasons to choose A1 Movers:

  • There’s no pass or fail – every child gets a Cambridge English certificate which celebrates their achievements.
  • The test uses realistic everyday situations to bring learning to life.
  • The test covers all major varieties of English (e.g. British English, American English).
  • We have a huge range of free and paid-for support.

Test Format

A1 Movers is made up of three papers developed to encourage and motivate young learners. You can see exactly what’s in each paper below.

Listening

Paper : Listening  (about 25 minutes)
Content : 5 parts/ 25 questions
Marks : a maximum of five shields

Reading & Writing

Paper : Reading & Writing (30 minutes)
Content : 6 parts/ 35 questions
Marks : a maximum of five shields

Speaking

Paper : Speaking (5–7 minutes)
Content : 4 parts
Marks : a maximum of five shields

Results

There is no pass or fail and all children receive a certificate which shows how many shields they have received (out of a maximum of five) for each part of the test.

An A1 Movers certificate is a great way to celebrate children’s achievement, build their confidence and reward their own individual ability.

A result of one shield means a child can improve a lot in that skill. Five shields mean that a child did very well in that skill and answered most questions correctly.

The back of the certificate shows how results align to the CEFR. If a child has achieved 4 or 5 shields in each skill, they are ready to start preparing for the next Cambridge English exam – A2 Flyers.
